Clan Information: Under the Tartan of MacDougall, we have two distinct Clans. The MacDougalls of Lorn and the MacDowells of Galloway. The MacDougalls of Lorn are the senior branch of the royal house of Somerled. As a Highland clan, the MacDougalls are one of the three oldest in existence dating from 1164. The MacDowells of Galloway are anciently connected to the MacDougalls through Fergus, Lord of Galloway, a cousin of King Somerled.
