Clan Crawford

Region: Southern Upland Region

Motto: I will render you safe with my strength

Clan Information: The stag head and cross on the Clan Crawford crest commemorates Johannes & Gregan Crawford saving King David I from a charging stag near Edinburgh in 1127.  They were knighted and a greatful King built Holyrood Abbey.  The Clan motto rang true during the Wars of Independence when Clan Crawford was the support structure for William Wallace, Guardian of Scotland.  Sir William Wallace, with his grandfather, Sir Hugh Crawford; his uncle, Sir Ronald Crawford and his cousins, Sirs William, Ronald & Patrick Crawford helped lead the revolt against the English.  Sir Ronald continued to take the fight to the English up to the valorous fight in the war-winning Scottish victory over the English at Bannockburn in 1314 with Robert the Bruce.
